Lubin Peter Aloysius Samson passed away peacefully at the Strait Richmond Hospital on December 17, 2014 with his wife of 45 years by his side. Born in Petit de Grat, he was the son of the late Andrew and Cécile (Boudreau) Samson. Lubin joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) on January 2, 1952, at the Recruiting Centre in Halifax. Following that, he was sent to Saint Jean, Quebec, for military training for six weeks. From there he was transferred to the RCAF Business School in Aylmer, Ontario and later transferred to RCAF station in MacDonald, Manitoba, to work in the administration building.
Nine months later, he was transferred to the radar RCAF in Sydney, Nova Scotia, as an advance party. His career then brought him to Ottawa headquarters where he worked in the administration building on officers’ postings and careers until 1958.
He took a medical course in Aylmer, Ontario, and was transferred to RCAF Uplands in the medical inspection room where he kept records of sick and hospitalized servicemen. As a final posting he was sent to RCAF Cold Lake, Alberta, in the base hospital working in medical statistics for all units, overseas and Canada. His contract of thirteen years ended and he received an honorable discharge in 1965. Upon leaving the military, he worked with the Ontario Provincial Government in medical records. His life path eventually took him back to his home, where he worked in the office at Booth’s Fisheries and finally as caretaker and janitor where he worked diligently to upkeep the buildings and the grounds of St. Joseph’s Parish in Petit de Grat.
Above all, Lubin was a wonderful and caring father and husband and he loved his family more than anything else in this world. He was a soft spoken, kind-hearted man who worked tirelessly and took pride in what he did. He will be deeply missed by his best friend and wife, Marie-Louise (Marchand) Samson; two loving daughters, Yvonne, Acton; Lise (Glenn), Middle Sackville; six precious grandchildren, Jacob, Sarah, Hannah, Jessica, Isaac and Rachel; and his sister Isabelle Theriault, Bedford.
He was predeceased by brothers, George, Wilfred, Louis, Cletus and Dr. Herman and his twin sister, Leola and sister, Elizabeth. There will be no visitation by request.
