DAVIS- Clarence Linton passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at The Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth. He was a son of the late Herbert L Davis and Gladys Churchill; he was born on September 5, 1918 in Rockville, Yarmouth County. He served with the Canadian Merchant Navy during World War II and was an active member of the Argyle Pubnico Legion # 95. Due to his acute ability to hear high frequency sonar he was trained to become a radio operator and during the remainder of the war served in Bell Island Nfld. While employed with the St. John's Shipping Company he was able to travel to New York, Bermuda and St. Pierre. After the war he worked for the Ministry of Transport as a Commercial Radio Operator, initially on ice breaking ships in the Hudson's and Davis Straits, travelling as far as Greenland on the NB McLean and later with the Coast Guard on the MV Alert. His thirst for adventure saw him working on Baffin and Sable Islands and the Lurcher shoal. As the family grew he chose locales such as VAU in Rockville and Yarmouth Airport which were closer to home. Upon retirement he worked with a road surveying crew. During his retirement he and his wife travelled to Europe, Bermuda and North Africa. One of his most memorable later pursuits was his active YMCA participation where he received a certificate in his 87th year for being the oldest member. He was married to the late Edythe Lorraine Murphy of Pubnico, Yarmouth Co. They raised five children, Angela (David Marling) Raymond AB; Laura Davis-Abreu,Wolfville; Graham (Joanne), Ottawa; Alicia Slaunwhite, Halifax; and Sandy (Cheri) Chebogue. He has enjoyed 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters Louise and Katheryn. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Muriel, Sarah and Caroline and brothers Walter, Victor, Alan, George, Winston and Carl. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweenys Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will take place Monday, September 4, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service from Sweenys Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Newell officiating. A reception will follow the funeral service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church Hall, 61 William Street, Yarmouth. Burial will take place in Chebogue Cemetery.
