Glenn James Milton Greer

GREER, Glenn James Milton

1943 - 2017

Passed away at Guelph General Hospital on Monday, August 14, 2017, in his 75th year. Beloved father of Llana Bruggemann (Thomas) and Michael Greer (Cecilia). Brother of Diane Bowe (Bob) and Gary Greer (Bonnie). Devoted grandfather to Ryan and Madison. Best friend to his four-legged companion, Sid. Glenn was a proud graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Sc.,P.Eng.), York University (M.B.A.), and valedictorian at Waterdown District High School. He always had a special connection to Rockwood because, although he was born at Guelph General Hospital, he lived in Rockwood with his mother, Marion, and grandparents, Frank and Leola Day, while his father, Milton, fought overseas during the war. He was often nostalgic about small town life at the Rockwood Post Office and Saunder’s bakery. He had a special connection to his grandfather, who was a keen historian and authored the book, Here and There in Eramosa. As an industrial engineer, Glenn led out in management and auditing roles at the University of Guelph, the United Co-operatives of Ontario and the University of Toronto. He was an officer in the R.C.A.F. and continued to pursue interests like rifle shooting at the Guelph Rod and Gun Club. He was a Boy Scout and also a Master Guide with the Pathfinders. He shared his love of knots and birds when he started the Brampton Pathfinder group at his local Seventh-Day Adventist church. The club has grown and continues to grow to this day. Glenn had ongoing interests in all things military, family genealogy, gardening, raising flags specific to occasions, the Hamilton Tiger Cats and the Toronto Maple Leafs and many, many building projects, including two cottages on Loon Call Lake. He was a voracious reader, especially of WWII history. Glenn will be remembered for his tenacious spirit and devotion to friends from all facets of his life.
