Antonio Catala

CATALA, Antonio (Tony)- at the age of 79, passed away August 22nd, 2011 at Belleville General Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Tony was born on May 22nd, 1932 in Ciudad Real, Spain to Toribia Diaz and Vicente Catala Mataredona, one of 8 children; Julia, Enrique, Josefa, Vicente, Concha, Pedro and the late Eduardo. In 1964, Tony and his wife Rosario left Spain and moved to Colmar, France where their first child, Rosario (Rose) was born (1965). Later in December 1968, they immigrated to Canada, settling in Belleville. Then in 1969, their second child Julia was born. After his wife, Rosario's death in 1988, he remarried to Pilar Asal. From the start, he was determined to learn the English language and pursue a job to provide for his family. He was a very quiet, shy, kindhearted man, known for his generosity, love of family, music, photography and long walks. He was predeceased by his parents, a younger brother, his first wife and an infant daughter, Maria Luisa. He is survived by his wife Pilar, his daughters Rose (Mike) Collins and Julia (Mike) Jones. Ever remembered by his grandchildren Joshua, Sydney, Matthew and his many siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins in Spain and Canada. Friends are invited to call at the JOHN R. BUSH FUNERAL HOME, 80 Highland Ave. Belleville (613-968-5588) on Wednesday August 24th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Thursday August 25th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations to the BGH-Oncology or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
