SMITH, BARBARA ANN (nee Dever) – Passed away peacefully at her home, in the loving arms of her family, surrounded by the ones she laughed with, lived for and loved deeply on Friday, February 2nd, 2018. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Cameron Leo Ambrose “Cam” Smith (2014). Pre-deceased by her parents John and Vona Dever (nee Chisholm). Much loved mother of Randy (Anna) Smith of Whitby, Rhonda (Francis) Soaft, Debbie Abbott and Angela Lupenette all of Belleville. Adored grandma/ nanna to Brittany Smith (Mike Petranovic), Jarett Smith, Shelby Smith (Ryan Ajo), Andrew (Farrah) Soaft, and Vanessa Soaft (Tyler Lobb), Kole Abbott (Poppy Ehemann), Brooke Abbott (Matthew Code), Megan Lupenette (Kevin Ferguson), Adam Lupenette (Emily Rashotte) and chosen grandson Joe Vigna. Loving great-grandma to Layla Soaft and Cameron Lupenette. Barbara is pre-deceased by her brothers Donald and Wally Dever and her sister Viola Green. Barbara will be greatly missed by brother Dr. Alan (Georgina) Dever, her sister-in-law Nancy Dever whom was also one of her closest friends, brother-in-law Dale (Deborah) Smith, along with cherished best-friend Nancy Burtt and many nieces and nephews. Barb and her husband Cam were the former owners of Pine St. Variety for 30 years. She was an active member of the community until her recent illness. She was a retired Teacher and enjoyed volunteering her time to various organizations including Hospice Quinte, Special Olympics, Wally Dever “Lets get on with it” committee, Durham Regional Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk and many more. Barb enjoyed games “Playing cards with the ladies” on Wednesday afternoons, trying her luck at the casino, completing the daily crossword, bus trips to theatre productions, taking in county winery tours and travelling. Her biggest enjoyment came from spending time with her family which included never missing her grandchildren's events. She will be forever loved and missed by all of those who knew her, and remembered for her kind soul, warm heart and endless generosity. Friends are invited to call at the John R. Bush Funeral Home, 80 Highland Ave., Belleville (613-968-5588) on Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, February 6th, 2018 at 11:00a.m. Interment at Belleville Cemetery where she will be buried beside her husband. The family would like to thank Dr. Wilkens and Tina, Dr. Bruce Bates, Amber Babcock NP, Kim V. RPN for their daily home visits as well as Shelby Taylor RN and PSW’s Adora, Tammy and Erica. We would also like to thank our family, friends and co-workers for the many comforting visits and wonderful food. Mom was blessed to have each and every one of you in her life.
