Brian Todd Obituary

Brian M. Todd Sept 1939-Nov 2011 With heavy hearts we said farewell to Brian on Thursday November 3 at home. He enjoyed life, worked hard, played hard and loved his family. Left with memories are: Gail (his wife of 49 years), children Sandra (Ron Zielinski) CA, Sarah Jane Brighton, William (Becky Patten) and Dong Suk Toronto, and the greatest grandkids, Jeremy and Tori Zielinski. Also sisters Patricia and Jane (Art Cooper) and brother Robert (Julie), and sister-in-law Debbie Mewhiney. Educated at Queen’s University he began teaching in Kingston in 1963. He felt extremely fortunate to move to Brighton to become principal of East Northumberland SS in 1972. He became Superintendent in 1983 of Northumberland-Durham Board of Education. He retired in 1995 and became a Brighton Community supporter. He was past Master of the United Masonic Lodge #29 and District Deputy Grand Master of Prince Edward District in 1992. Brian was active in the community through Lions and Brighton Legion Branch 100. He was involved in the Brighton Curling Club as an active curler and past president. Brian was one of the founders of the Brighton Health Service Centre and Chair from its inception in 2001. He was actively involved in the Quest for a new community sports field in Brighton. He was hoping to see the opening of this project. Brian was active in Brighton Rotary Club for many years, served on many committees and recently honoured as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was honoured as Brighton’s Citizen of the year in 2009. Brian and the family are grateful for the caring team of doctors and nurses at the Cancer Centre at KGH. We would also like to thank the VON care team for their visits. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Trinity St. Andrew’s Church Building Fund or the Quest for an ENSS Community Track & Sports Field. Visitation will be Monday, November 7 at Walas Funeral Home in Brighton: 2-4, 7-9 pm with a Masonic service at 6:30pm. A celebration of his life will be held at Trinity St. Andrew’s Church Tuesday November 8 at 1:30pm.
