Donald Thoms (Retired O.P.P.) Obituary

THOMS, Donald John (retired OPP Officer) – Passed peacefully at home early Wednesday, Oct. 26. Don was in his 77th year when he lost his hard-fought battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Sue, loving father of John and Doug, father-in-law of Lorraine and Nadia, and “awesome” Grandpa of Matthew. Originally from Walkerton, Don spent the bulk of his life in Belleville and Picton as an OPP constable, and retired to the Belleville area after 30 years of service. An avid golfer, woodworker, fisherman, collector, cook and lawn care enthusiast, Don spent his retirement years with family and friends, always on the look-out for new projects and challenges. He is predeceased by his parents, Carl and Isobel, and brothers Doug and Ken. He is survived by his sisters Carole and Meredith and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Nov. 6 from 2-5 p.m., at the Bay of Quinte Golf and Country Club. Everyone is welcome and invited to share stories and memories of Don. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of choice are welcome.
