SMITH, Macdonald- Passed away peacefully at Quinte Gardens Retirement Home on Sunday, October 21st, 2018 at the age of 95. Son of the late Harry & Florence Smith (Munnings). Beloved husband of the late Stella Smith (Morton). Predeceased by his sons Charles and Harry Smith. Dear father and father-in-law of Pamela and Terry Murphy, and David and Heather Smith all of Belleville. Loving and proud grandfather of Jamie (Hilary) Murphy, Kathryn (Michael) Di Donato both of Belleville, and Ian (Megan Loney) Smith of Ottawa. Loving great grandfather of Jack and Sam Murphy, and Molly and Charlie Rose Di Donato. Dear brother of Betty Smith of Belleville. Brother-in-law of Vera Morton of Belleville. He is also predeceased by his siblings Helen (late John) Casey, Charles Smith, Robert (late Gladys) Smith, George (late Ruth) Smith, Elizabeth (late Ted) Nettleton, Tom (late Alice) Smith, Howard (late Leila) Smith and Harry (late Jean) Smith. He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Mac enlisted for overseas service in 1941 and served with the 32nd Battery, 4th, Lt. A/A Regiment and Royal Canadian Artillery. Upon his return to Belleville he was a Commanding Officer of 22nd Battery RCA. Mac became a school trustee in 1952. He served on the Belleville Public School Board, Quinte District High School Board and the Hastings County Board of Education. He retired from the field as a trustee in 1974. Mac was a local businessman and a life long dedicated community volunteer with numerous charities and organizations including the Rotary Club of Belleville. Friends and Family are invited to call at the JOHN R. BUSH FUNERAL HOME, 80 Highland Ave. Belleville (613-968-5588) on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Memorial Services will be held at Christ Church, Belleville on Monday, October 29th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The family extends their sincere appreciation to the Quinte Gardens, VON and Paramed Staff for their care and support of Mac.
