William Flindall

Flindall: William Donald 1914 - 2011 Don passed away peacefully at Hastings Manor Long Term Care on Sunday January 2nd, 2011 at the age of 96. Beloved husband and friend of the late Jean Bongard for 47 years. Dear father of Wayne (Mildred Kaiser) of Kingston, Karen (Bryan) Kaufman of New Dundee, Stephen (Laurie Glasgow) of Wellington, NS, and Graydon (Joan Elliott) of Belleville. Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Bradley & Scott Flindall, Jeffrey (Michelle) Flindall and Tricia Flindall; Kimberly Walker, Gregory Fisher and Julia (Peter) Wadsworth; Aaron, Jason, Scott and Joanne Flindall; Korin (Scott) Walker and Kirk Flindall, Laurie-Anne (Mike) Thompson and Craig Flindall. Also missed dearly by great grandchildren Katie; Haley, Melissa and Jessica; Henry; Kristian, Kaylan, Lauren, and Ryan; Jenica and Cole; and Morgan. Also loving husband to the late Ann Gartland Wringe for 10 years. Will be fondly remembered and missed by Ann's sons Terry (Anne Marie) and Tony and daughters Mary Ann (Robert) Hogan, Helen Larsen, and Margaret-Ann (Robert) Smit. Will also be missed by stepdaughter –in-law,Sherry, and Ann’s 16 grandchildren, especially Katie, and 9 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, May and William; brothers Doug, Ed, Hilton and Roscoe; and sisters Gwen (Howard) Kelleher, Vera (Gordon) Thompson and Lois (George) Miller and stepson, Jim Wringe. His remaining siblings Ena Kennedy Kryschuk, Vernon (Jean), Helen (Maurice-deceased) Dafoe and Bob (Joyce), join in the loss of a dear brother. Born in Hillier, Prince Edward County, Don had a love of the outdoors, especially for camping, fishing and swimming and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cottage on Mackenzie Lake. He enjoyed skiing as a young man and snowmobiling in his retirement years. He was a trainman and conductor for the Canadian National Railways for 34 years, president of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen in Belleville for 3 years and a member of the Masonic Lodge #283. He was also well known by the many teenagers who frequented the Saturday night dances at the Club Canara in years past. He retired at age 60 with a wide family of friends who loved and respected him. He was an avid reader and had a keen interest in birds and nature. He was also blessed with a wonderful sense of humor that followed him through life. In the words of family, he was "an amazing man" and will always have a special place in our hearts. The Flindall family invites friends and relatives to share their memories with them at the Belleville Funeral Home and Chapel, 68 North Front Street, Belleville (613-968-5080) on Wednesday January 5th, 2011 from 3-5p.m. & 7-9p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Christ Church Anglican (Coleman Street, Belleville) on Thursday January 6th, 2011 at 11a.m., with Rev. Robert Flindall, brother of the deceased, officiating. Reception to follow the service. Interment at Belleville Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Christ Church .
