Born in Brockville and raised in Kemptville, Barbara attended the University of Ottawa. She met the love of her life, Leonard, at a dance in Kemptville. They married and started their life together in Kingston, where their only child Kelly Ann was born. Barbara and Leonard returned to Brockville in 1962 where they started a successful business.

Active in the community, Barbara was President of the Kinette Club in the 1960’s, Board member of the United Way in the 1970s and, most recently, an active Board member of Brock Cottage. In 1976, Barbara was instrumental in founding Brockville’s Downtown Business Improvement Area, which she later Chaired. A member of the Brockville Yacht Club for over 40 years, she enjoyed many hours on the beautiful St. Lawrence River.

Barbara loved her home and garden. Her dog, Katie, was her constant companion.

She was a proud grandmother who taught her grandchildren (Brigid & William) about the warmth of the home, unconditional love and the importance of a dog. Brigid and William inherited Barbara’s love of politics and she spent long hours with them debating politics, ethics and philosophy.

Barbara is remembered warmly by the people she loved the most; her devoted husband of 54 years, Leonard, her treasured daughter Kelly (Martha), her cherished grandchildren Brigid and William, and her beloved siblings Pat, Bill, and Mary-Lynn.

A private family service was held at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville followed by interment at Oakland Cemetery. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the S.P.C.A will be gratefully acknowledged.
