Beth was the daughter of Edward and Irma (Jones), and sister to brothers Robert (Bob) and William (Billy). Growing up in Brockville Beth developed a deep connection with the water where she spent many days boating around their island cottage, swimming in the St. Lawrence river or vacationing with family at Silver Islet on Lake Superior near Thunder Bay. After marrying in 1970, she lived in British Columbia, New Brunswick and then Nova Scotia where she was an active and caring mother to her sons, fostering a connection with water through canoe trips on the interior lakes and rivers, and hikes along the Atlantic coastline. Beth was a talented artist and musician, and a lover of the arts, theatre and culture. She passed her love of literature, drawing and music on to her boys. In recent years, she once again heard the call of the 1000 Islands area and returned to live in Brockville. She remains the lifelong wife of Douglas Shields and cherished mother of Robert and Christopher (Mary-Ann) Shields. She is sadly missed by her grandchildren Elizabeth, William, Matthew, Ryan and Emily and by her brother Billy McCann. Also left to mourn is her devoted best friend Jennifer Bennett and a close family friend Marnie Brown. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brockville Arts Centre are encouraged.</p>
