She was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Sarah N. (Burridge) Paul who for decades operated the Paul Funeral Home in Brockville. Carol will be greatly missed by her beloved brother and sister-in-law Bill and Gwen Paul. She was predeceased by her sister, Norma Culp and by two brothers in childhood, Ray and John Paul. She was the cherished aunt of Bruce Paul (Kathy), David Paul (Janice), Debbie Cozens (Brad), Mark Paul (Joan), Lindsay Paul (Virginia), Dana Wren (Matt), the late Paul Culp, Islay Culp-Hayter, Peter Culp (Patricia Keeling), Annie Culp (Ellery Edgeley) and Kara Lisa Culp; and of numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Having been born with Down’s Syndrome, Carol defied all projections of life expectancy and, in consideration of her challenges, lived a long and happy life. This was due in part to the commitment of her mother, Sarah, caring for Carol at home at a time when many living with Down’s were institutionalized. Her family will be forever grateful to St. Lawrence Lodge for admitting both Mrs. Paul and Carol together as residents in the mid-1980’s. There they found warm, caring and happy surroundings in which Carol managed to become, by length of stay, the facility’s longest living resident. At the Lodge, Carol was delighted by the frequent celebrations, picnics and concerts and she spent many happy days with her dolls, watching Disney movies, enjoying music, and looking out on the river. Words cannot adequately express our thanks for the care she has received.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville, from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Thursday, February 11th.
