Dave Darling
<p>Entered into rest at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on May 8th 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his beloved wife Rita Bouchard Edwards Darling. Lovingly remembered by his friend and companion Phyllis Ross. Brother to Grace, James "Sonny", Jean, Catherine, Molly, Stanton "Tonto", Russell "Rusty" and Ann, all deceased. Devoted father to Jane (Julio), Michael (Susana), Danny and Meredith. Loving stepfather to Rita's children Peter, Sandra, Cyndi, Perry and Robin. Beloved Poppa to Jane's children Jon (Nicky), Ben (Angela) and Michaela and to Rita's grandchildren. Great-grandfather to Ben's children Brandon, Jaime, Cloey and Emmett and to Jon's daughter Isla.</p><p><br></p><p>Dave graduated from BCI in 1952 and worked at the CNR before joining DuPont (now Invista) where he enjoyed working in the lab with many friends for 39 years. He was a professional alpine ski instructor for over 25 years with the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance and was the past President of the Y Border Ski Club with local activities at The Flying Inch at St. Lawrence Park, Mount Laurier and ARDA Valley. He was also a part-time Ski Instructor at various resorts for over 40 years including his favourites, Mount Sutton and Calabogie Peaks. In addition to all of his skiing activities, Dave was a former Junior Intermediate B and long-time Gentlemen's League hockey player and a lifelong golf enthusiast. His closing remarks, "I didn't do everything I set out to do, but I tried".</p><p><br></p><p>A special thank you to Gary Lalonde and Emily Clarey (granddaughter of Rita) and to all the many health care professionals who looked after Dave so well.</p><p><br></p><p>A celebration of Dave's life will be held at the Irvine Memorial Chapel, 2451 County Rd. 15, Maitland on Thursday, May 16th from 12 noon until 2 pm.
