Dr. Julius F. Frank, D.V.M., M. Sc., FRCVS, Centennial Medal, Silver Jubilee Medal

Died peacefully, in Brockville, Ontario, on January 5, 2018 in his 97th year, after a brief illness. Survived by his wife Evelyn, his children, Mary Ellen (Ian), Carol Anne, Peggy and George (Lynne), his grandchildren, Erik (Lilly), Luc (Geneviève), Noëmi, Phillip, Simon (Mila), Jeremy (Anjali) and Rachel, his great grandchildren, Erika, Florence, Eli and Oliver, his sister Sadie and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased by his brothers Harry (Hal) and Phil, his sisters Gert, Mary and Millie and sons-in-law John Cutler, Paul Brunet and David Rayment.

Julius was born in Montreal, the son of Harry and Sonia (Rabinovitch). He lived in Montreal until attending the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, where he obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He attended Macdonald College (McGill University) where he obtained his M.Sc., after which he held a number of senior positions with the federal Department of Agriculture in Sackville, New Brunswick and Ottawa/Hull. He was Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Comparative Medicine and the Canadian Veterinary Journal for many years. After retiring from the federal civil service, he worked on a number of projects for the Canadian International Development Agency throughout the world, and for the United Nations University/World Health Organization in the Caribbean and South America.

Julius was a long-time resident of Manotick, Ontario, where he was involved in many community organizations, particularly the Miller’s Oven. He joined the Rotary Club of West Ottawa in 1988 where he was made an Honorary Life Member in 2012 and is a two time Paul Harris fellow.

In his later years, Julius moved to Brockville, Ontario, where he was well taken care of at the Wedgewood retirement residence. He became a member of the Rotary Club of Brockville where he was also an Honorary Life Member.

Family and friends are invited to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St. E., on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 for visitation from 1-2 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rotary Foundation through the Rotary Club of Brockville or the Rotary Club of West Ottawa, or to a charity of your choice.
