Passed away at the Smiths Falls District Hospital on Monday, April 9th, 2012 at the age of 77 years. Garnet is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 54 years, Doris (Wright) Johnston of Jasper. Cherished father of Cindy (Tim Myers), Debbie (the late Gerald McKenna), Rick (Marg Jansen) and Sherri (Dan Moran). Loved Poppy to Luke and Shannon Myers; Karina, Rikki and Joel Johnston and Sharlee and Danni-Ann Moran. Dear great Poppy to Lauren and Koen Myers. Also survived by his amazingly close and devoted siblings Gertrude Morrison (the late Burton), Gilbert (Dorothy), Glen (Doris) and Garfield (Belva); sister-in-law Shirley Johnston and brother-in-law Leonard Crummy. Predeceased by his parents Claude and Geraldine Johnston; sisters Greta Crummy and Grace Woodcock; by his brothers Guy and Grant Johnston and by his mother and father-in-law W.J. and Glenna Wright. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Don and Donna Wright. Fondly remembered by an extended, but close, family of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a wide circle of friends. Garnet will miss and be missed by his second family at Clear Lake where he shared many, many years of good times, fond memories and where he kept young. Visitation will be held at the Irvine Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre at ROSELAWN, 2451 Maitland Road, Maitland on Thursday, April 12th from 4-9 pm. A service in honour and celebration of Garnet’s life will be held in the Chapel on Friday, April 13th at 2 pm followed by interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
