Obituary for Geraldine Elizabeth Walker

The heart and soul of the Walker family, Bette, 87, passed away on August 27 at the Brockville General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John, her children, Kathie Walker, Ottawa, Rick Walker (Fran), Brockville, Debbie Walker (Doreen Magerman), Tottenham, and grandchildren, Erica Sainsbury (Dave Martindale), Ottawa, Chris Walker and Jon Walker, Brockville.

Mom will always be remembered as an intrepid adventurer gamely following her husband as his career as a foreign correspondent for Southam News took the family to Washington, DC, London, England, and Beijing, China. They spent their latter years in Ottawa until their move to Brockville in 2009.

Bette was most of all beautiful, a fabulous cook, a consummate hostess, an avid gardener, a master story teller and a collector of all things beautiful. Wherever the family lived, Mom was always able to quickly establish a new family 'home' filled with warmth, laughter, the smell of great food cooking and new memories being created. Parties at the Walker household were always fun and always filled with spirited conversations.

The only daughter of Judge Roy Manning Edmanson and Elizabeth Whittleton, Bette grew up in Calgary during the Depression and the start of WWll - until she met the love of her life, John, who was an attractive young RCAF pilot stationed in Calgary. Once they married, the adventure of a lifetime began and what an adventure it was.

Mom - always loved, forever missed.

A private celebration of Bette's life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted with the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville.
