Greta Cardiff Brockville, Ontario Obituary

Greta Cardiff

Greta died peacefully, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, on March 9, 2010. She was predeceased by her loving husband Percy in 1980. She was the proud mother of Garry (Joan), cherished grandmother of Andy (Aurelia) and beloved great-grandmother of dearly loved Emily Rose. She is fondly remembered by her grandchildren Danielle, Marc and Gabrielle, and by her step-grandchildren, Sarah, Christopher and Jessica. Greta was born in Smiths Falls, and spent her childhood on the family farm in Toledo. Following their marriage, she and Percy moved to Brockville in 1941, where she has resided since. Greta was proud of her role of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as her career at the City of Brockville and the VON. Following her retirement, she became an avid golfer and bridge player, active with the latter until late this past fall. Greta lived independently, in the home that Percy built, until she entered hospital in late February. She loved watching the birds from her porch window, and cherished her relationships with her neighbours. A Timeless Tribute Video Memorial is available online. If you would like to view the video now, scroll over the Memories tab on the left and click on Video Tribute. The family is very grateful for the compassionate care provided by the Intensive Care Unit at the Brockville General Hospital, and by Drs. Redmond and Beveridge. A Memorial Service will be held on March 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Irvine Funeral Chapel, 4 James Street East Brockville with a reception following. Private internment will at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Greta would have appreciated donations to the CHEO Foundation.
