SMEATHERS, Hazel Isobel (nee Shields). February 27, 1922 - May 21, 2107. Surrounded by family at her side, passed away at age 95 at Maycourt Hospice in Ottawa. Loving wife of 65 years to the late Ronald Edgar (2008) and proud and much loved mother to Ron (Shirley), grandmother of Christi, Scott (Lisa), great-grandmother of Roark, Dagny and Rayn. Loving Aunt to Margaret Key (Mike), Martha Ackerman (John) and Jim Shields and great aunt to Ted Key (Meaghan) and Robin Key (Kris Davis). Hazel will be dearly missed by her extended family. She was predeceased by her brother Jim Shields.

Hazel lived most of her life in Brockville, then joined her family in Ottawa after her husband passed away. She had proudly worked at Automatic in Brockville, and also RCMP in Ottawa. Hazel’s passion was her cat (Kelly), shopping, and especially being with family. Family was everything to her.

Our family extends heartfelt thanks to her niece Margaret who we sincerely appreciate for all that she had done over the years. We would also like to thank her caretakers : Rhonda (Seniors On Site), Margo and Frenalyn (CCAC), for making her last months at home comfortable, and to the wonderful staff and volunteers at the May Court Hospice. Special thank you to Sarah.

Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Alzheimer's Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
