Helen Fay Cartan Obituary

In her 93rd year, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2013 at The Wedgewood Retirement Home in Brockville, ON. Loving mother of Jim of Bobcaygeon, Doug (Sandy Gray) of Brockville, Mary Richardson (Joseph) of Toronto, and Michael (Maureen Haas) of Timmins and loving grandmother of Johanna, Leah, Erin and Alison and Casey. Great grandmother of Emma and Justice.


Born in Toronto August 08, 1920 and predeceased by her husband, Albert James Cartan.


Helen was an avid gardener, book lover, cribbage and tennis player. Always interested in the world around her, Helen was keenly interested in politics, music and her grandchildren’s progress. She was a volunteer ESL teacher and a long time volunteer with St. John’s Convalescent Hospital in North York. Helen was known for her sharp wit and her insightful conversation.


The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of The Wedgewood for their care and kindness during the past two and a half years.


A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, January 5th from 1-3 p.m., with tributes and words of remembrance at 1:30 p.m., at the Irvine Funeral Home Reception Centre, 4 James Street East, Brockville, ON. At a later date a remembrance will be held in Toronto where interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
