James Peter Jones, at the age of 87 years, passed away peacefully at the Brockville
General Hospital on Saturday, July14, 2018.
Beloved husband of Dorothy. Survived by son, Peter of Toronto, ON and
grandson, Peter Michael Jones also of Toronto, ON.
Born in Lethbridge Alberta, James Peter Jones joined the RCMP and wore the
red serge and Stetson before answering God's call to the ministry. He met
his wife Dorothy while studying in Montreal. They have two sons, David and
Peter. After service in pulpit ministry in several prominent Presbyterian
churches, he and Dorothy moved to Brockville and James Peter became
assistant to their son David at First Presbyterian. He served as pastoral
and visitation minister. Daily he made home and hospital visits to offer a
spiritual dimension to shut-ins throughout the area. His prayer and comfort
eased the distress and discouragement of many of our members.
At funerals, he took time to understand the loss and personal grief of the
survivors. His pulpit ministry was extraordinarily meaningful with his deep
understanding of theology and commitment to life in Christ. His contribution
to the life of First Presbyterian Church in Brockville is enormous and his
continued presence as a congregant and advisor is much needed as the church
is restored and reborn under a new minister.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of James Peter's life at
First Presbyterian Church, 10 Church Street, Brockville on Saturday July 21,
2018 at 1:30 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St. E., Brockville.
