Janet Irma Linton Obituary

Janet Irma Linton (Beckwith) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the St. Lawrence Lodge after a courageous battle with vascular dementia. Janet is survived by her sons Bob (Shelley) Linton; Tom (Linda) Linton; and daughter Betty (Richard) Van Beek. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jesse Linton (Em), Lindsay Linton (Jared), Matt Linton (Dana), Sam Linton, Kyle Van Beek, Aidan Van Beek, Alyssa Shaver and Abby Linton. Janet was predeceased by her son John Charles Linton and her former husband William (John) Linton.

Janet was a devoted mother, grandmother (or Gram as she was fondly called by her grandchildren) and friend. She identified with the St. Francis Xavier Church in Brockville and was a devoted parishioner until her health prevented her from attending.

She loved to travel and had been to all of the provinces in Canada, and she especially enjoyed travelling to the east coast. She was an excellent cook and made butter tarts and apple pie to die for! Sunday family dinners were very important to her in the early years. When Janet sold her home and moved to her condo, she didn’t do a lot of cooking. Instead she could be found at King’s restaurant, Leoni’s, Tincap restaurant and Kelsey’s to name a few and the staff all knew her by name.

She was an avid seamstress keeping the local Fabricland in business. She was known for making her soft warm fleece blankets for all of her family and did some hemming and alterations while she lived at Bridlewood.

Janet started out in nursing, but never graduated as she decided to have a family instead. She had many different jobs during her lifetime and her final job before she retired was as a homemaker for the Red Cross where she worked for over 20 years. It was definitely her calling as she was a devoted and caring person to all of her clients. She also was a volunteer for many years for the cancer society; driving patients and their families to Ottawa and Kingston for their treatments.

She received the devastating diagnosis of vascular dementia in 2014 and her health and memory had been deteriorating since then. She had spent 1 1/2 years at Bridlewood Manor then went to St. Lawrence Lodge until the time of her death.

At Janet’s request, cremation took place and a private family service was performed at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel. The funeral was officiated by Father Price and the interment was performed at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville at https://alzheimer.ca. Condolences may be written on the memory wall above.
