Drew, Joan Marie

Joan Marie drew, age 89, died August 17, 2015 at Brockville General Hospital. Born July 8, 1926 in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario, daughter of Raymond Rochon and the former Myrtle Sarah Opie. She was raised in Port Arthur and Saskatoon, where she received her early schooling, and she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1946, with a B.C. (Science) in Medical Technology. She worked at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, and in the Pathology Department at the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. Returning to Canada in 1951, she was at St. Mary's Hospital in Montreal before joining the Medical Department of Imperial Oil Limited at their Montreal East refinery. In 1956 she married Alan Drew of Brockville, and moved to Halifax, N.S. During her husband's career with Imperial Oil, she made many friends in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Sarnia and Vancouver. She was active in the Junior League, Beta Sigma Phi, Hollyburn Country Club, University Women's Club, and the Montreal Athletic Club before retiring in Brockville, where she enjoyed golfing at the Brockville Country Club. Joan is survived by her beloved husband Alan and her three sons, Alan (Melanie) and Donald (Diana) all of Mississauga, and John of B.C. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Connor, Denam and DaShawna and by three nephews and a niece. She was predeceased by her only sister Erika O'Grady of Ottawa. A memorial service in Celebration of Joan's life will be held in the Chapel of the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22nd and a reception will follow in the Irvine Reception Centre. Private interment at Oakland Cemetery. Donations to the St. Paul's Anglican Church Memorial Fund will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
