Passed away in Brockville, Ontario on Sept. 5, 2015 following a stroke.

Survived by her beloved husband John; her children, Elizabeth (Richard), Ronald, Moss (Dale) and Charles and grandchildren Jocelyn, Nicholas, Caitlin, Colin, Owen and Hayley. Predeceased by her twin sister Bette Gwatkin.

Joan was the children's librarian at the Brockville Public Library for over 20 years where she encouraged the love of books and reading in many children. She was a world traveller and loved the St. Lawrence River. Upon returning from travelling she would observe that she had seen nothing more beautiful than the 1,000 Islands. She was an accomplished crafter, gourment cook and stylish dresser. Her sense of humour delighted her family and friends. She was a kind and compassionate woman who generously welcomed many people into her home.
