Joan Findlay Patterson (nee Stephens)

1923 - 2014

Passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2014 with her family by her side. Predeceased by John Patterson, her husband of 63 years, and beloved grandson Nicholas. Survived by her six children: Andy (Marjory), Alec (Susan), Christine (Karl), Charlotte (Alf), Duncan (Viki) and Malcolm (Cindy), and by fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews.

Born in Winnipeg and a graduate of McGill University, Joan lived most of her life in Brockville where she was an active volunteer in her community. Her volunteer activities included service on the boards of the Brockville Police Service and Brockville General Hospital and her many years with the May Court Club Thrift Shop and the Liberal Party. She was one of the founding members of Leeds and Grenville Interval House. Joan was equally talented at home where she created works of art and design with fabric and needlework, and grew amazing flowers and plants in her greenhouse. A thoughtful woman of integrity with a strong sense of social responsibility, Joan will be greatly missed.

Joan’s family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Teresa Ouellet for her devoted care of Mum in her final years, and many thanks to all of Joan’s other caregivers.

Friends are invited to pay their respects at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville, Friday, June 20, 2014 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Saturday, June 21, 2014 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. A ceremony celebrating Joan's life will be held on Saturday, June-21-2014, 2:00 pm at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, Brockville, Ontario. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
