<p>Smith, Elizabeth Joan R.N.</p><p>(nee Walker)</p><p>Former Assistant Director of Nursing at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital in Brockville, Joan Smith passed away peacefully at her home at Rockport, on Monday, August 10, 2015 at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of the late Thomas Woodford Smith. Loving mother of Robert Michael Maclean of Oshawa, Lise Maclean Allin of Belleville, Edward "Ted" Maclean (Carol MacLeod) of Richmond, Thomas Woodford Smith (Randee) of Kingston and the late Ann Woodford Smith (Sylvain Mongeon survives). Cherished grandmother of Andrew Maclean of Belleville, Peter Maclean of Oshawa, Dr. Leslie Allin (Steven Zuccala) of Guelph, Dr. Jim Allin (Dr. Tegan Hamilton) of Australia, Scott Allin (Lyndsay Dolan) of Belleville, Ellen Maclean of Pemberton BC, Alexander "Sandy" Maclean (Stephanie) of Ottawa, Michael Toth of Brockville, Crystal Woodford Smith (Todd), Robyn Carquez (Steve) and Valerie Ramesar-Smith all of Kingston; and great-grandmother of Saleena, Natalia and Darius Carquez, Gabriel and Rosie Allin, Colton Smith and Ryhs Rosa. Joan is also survived by her brother Robert Bruce "Bob" Walker (Mary) of Milton, her sister Dorothy Jane Neil of Kingston and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Gordon Hugh Walker (Carol survives) of Cleveland, Ohio.</p><p><br></p><p>Joan Smith also served on the Board of Governors of St. Lawrence College, Brockville. Joan enjoyed playing and watching golf, and was a member and secretary of the Grenadier Island Golf and Country Club. An avid Bridge player, Joan hosted bridge and continued to play Bridge with her Bridge Club friends until last year. Joan also deeply loved her family and many friends and had a soft spot for wildlife and domestic animals of all sizes and species.ý After Joan's retirement she greatly enjoyed living on the river for over 30 years at Rockport at Cliff Cottage Road, off the Thousand Islands Parkway. Special thanks to her many supportive and dear friends, especially Lydia Windsor, Audrey Kort, Beth and Tom Graham, Cis Mclaughlin, Colleen Chwalek, Jean Marr and many more. Special thanks to John Simpson and Michael McMahon, Jessie Hearns and her CACC team, Dr. VanJaarsveld and Dr. Crouteau for their excellent advice, care and support.</p><p><br></p><p>Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville, Thursday, August 20th from 9:30 am until the time of a Ceremony in Celebration of Joan's life in the Chapel at 11:30 am. A reception will follow in the Irvine Reception Centre. Private interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery.
