Passed away peacefully at the Royal Brock Retirement Centre on December 20, 2017. John Alexander Ballachey (J.B.), at the age of 76 years.

Dear brother of Rae Jelly (late Sid) of Nepean and Barbara Brickman (Keith) of Cary, NC. He leaves behind his beloved cat Newton. Uncle to Linda, Suzanne and Robert Curphey, as well as Amanda Elam, Charmaine Stone, Brian Brickman and Eric Ballachey. Predeceased by his parents Alex and Peg Ballachey, his brother Bill Ballachey, and his pets Darcy, Jennifer, Ruth and Portia.

John was born in Sudbury, ON on August 24, 1941. After spending most of his first four years in Field, BC, the Ballachey family moved to Noranda, QC where John lived for 19 1/2 years. After being schooled at Noranda High School and Lakefield College School, he graduated from Western and later embarked on a 32 1/2 year teaching career at Brockville Collegiate. He enjoyed curling, stage acting and choir singing which garnered him friends and fellowship.

Fraternally, John was a member of Sussex #5 Masonic Lodge, Sussex-St. Lawrence Chapter #59 and Tunis Shriners. John loved Brockville very much. Although he travelled extensively, he was always happy to return home.

A celebration of John's life will be held at The Parish of St. Lawrence Anglican Church, 80 Pine St., Brockville on Saturday, December 30th at 1 pm with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Arrangements are entrusted with the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville. Memorial donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation; Palliative Care or Lanark, Leeds and Grenville OSPCA will be gratefully acknowledged.
