John McDonald

Peacefully at Carleton Lodge, Ottawa, on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of the former Jean Grey (Sheila) Ramsay. Dear father of Fiona McDonald of Ottawa, and Sharon Rigby and her husband Bryan of Maxville. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Shona and Bryce Fraser, and Shelby Rigby. Predeceased by his brothers Samuel and George McDonald, and by his sister Margaret Thorogood. John, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, emigrated to Canada in 1962. He worked in Montreal as an engineer with Atomic Energy and semi-retired to Brockville in 1989. While in Brockville he was a familiar face at his part-time jobs at McDonalds and the Brockville Memorial Centre. He had a life-long passion for soccer, having been a referee for 35 years and greatly enjoyed working with youth. He is a Past Master of Montreal East Masonic Lodge. A ceremony in celebration of John’s life will be held at the Roselawn Tribute Centre, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland, on Saturday, June 20th at 1:00 p.m. Interment and reception to follow. In remembrance, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
