Vango, Lilian "Lila"

(nee Brown)

 

Peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Miramichi Lodge, Pembroke in her 94th year.

 

Wife of the late Albert "Buck" Vango, and dear mother of Pamela Dempsey (Wayne) of Pembroke and Brenda Oertell (the late Ralph ) of Cerritos CA. Cherished grandmother of Stephen Dempsey [Robin] of Toronto.

 

She will be lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Kathleen Ginger (Fred) UK, Carol Scofield (Bert) & Family of Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews in the UK and SA.  Predeceased by her parents Thomas Brown and Lily (nee Taylor), brother Donald Brown and sister Doreen Cashin all of the UK.

 

Lilian was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne UK in 1920. Buck, Lila and daughters immigrated to Canada in the spring of 1957, a long-time resident of Brockville for over 56 years. Buck & Lila were among many hired to start Black & Decker in 1957. Lila wound the first armature for the first drill to come off the line for sale.  She was a Provincial Life Member of the  Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario, a member of the Brockville Lioness, an avid gardener and seamstress.

 

Family and friends are invited to a memorial reception at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Saturday March 29th from 11am until 1 pm.

 

Interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery.

 

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Miramichi Lodge Foundation, Pembroke or the Canadian Arthritis Society will be gratefully acknowledged.
