Lorne Mallory Obituary

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Brockville General Hospital. Lorne was a much respected long-time local businessman. He was the first Globe and Mail newspaper boy in Brockville, enlisted in the Air Force at age 18 and was a Veteran of WWII, partnered to buy Stewart's Stationary in 1958 after war then later started a holding company, called Malglaz Ltd. Lorne was President and General Manager of Dodge Enterprises for 10 years and established L/G Commercial Real Estate. His extensive community involvement included 65 years with the Brockville Lions Club (3 times as President and was at times both the youngest President and oldest President), 67 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, 65 year member of Sussex Masonic Lodge, 55 year member of the Shriners, 10 years as Chairman of Brockville Police Board, 6 years as a Brockville City Councillor and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Brockville. Lorne’s hobbies included being an avid long-time sportsman with a special affinity for softball and later Golf where he was a member of the Brockville Country Club for many years. Lorne was also a member of the "Republic of Brockville" coffee club meeting each Saturday morning. Lorne leaves behind his beloved wife of 20 years Beverley Mallory, his daughters Donna (Ian Walsh) and JoAnn (Jeff Street); his son Terry (Noppamat); his step-daughter Heather Henderson (Jason); step-son Jim MacDonald (Anita); 7 Grandchildren; 5 Step-Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Mallory (Phyllis); his sisters Dorothy Christie (Forest - deceased) and Phyllis Shewan (Jim - deceased); his sister-in-law Freda Mallory (Fred - deceased) and many nieces and nephews who were very special to him. Lorne was predeceased by his parents Jessie Mallory and Charles Fredrick Mallory; his daughter Susan Mallory (Smeathers) and his brothers Fred Mallory and Harry Mallory. So long from Lorne to his many wonderful friends over the years. Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A service in honour and celebration of Lorne's life will take place at the First Baptist Church, 5 Pine Street, on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11 am. A reception will follow at the Irvine Funeral Home Reception Centre. As expressions of sympathy, donation to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Officers and Members of Sussex Masonic Lodge # 5, G.R.C. will assemble for a Masonic Memorial tribute on Friday evening at 6:30 pm followed by a Lions Club Memorial tribute at 6:45 pm.
