<p>Proctor, Marion Esther (nee Allin), a gracious, elegant and cheerful lady passed away peacefully at St. Lawrence Lodge on September 10, 2017, at the age of 104 years. Beloved wife of the late Maurice (Maurie), “Pat”, McKinley Proctor, dear mother of Susan LeGresley (Barry) of Coquitlam, BC, and the late Lindsey Proctor of Toronto, Ont., and cherished grandmother to Devin LeGresley of Vancouver, BC, and Erin LeGresley of Coquitlam, BC. Marion is survived by many nieces and nephews in Ontario, Northern Ireland and England.</p><p>Marion was born to the late Albert Henry (Harry) Allin and Ina Bird (nee Dilling) in Bowmanville, Ontario, and was the fifth child in a family of seven children. In 1942, during WWII, Marion met Maurie while he was training as a Royal Air Force Navigator in Oshawa, Ontario. Born in Northern Ireland, Maurie began his air force training in England. While training in Canada, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, flying on missions all over the world. Marion and Maurie wrote to each other daily. He returned to Canada in Oct. 1946, and they married six weeks later on Nov. 21, 1946.</p><p>Marion and Maurie moved from Bowmanville when Maurie began working for Household Finance. The family moved to Galt, Smiths Falls, and then to Brockville in 1956, where they resided at 113 Ferguson Drive until Maurie’s death in 2011. Following his death, Marion moved into Bridlewood Manor; in Nov. 2016, she moved to St. Lawrence Lodge. Even though her vision was severely limited by macular degeneration, she believed in making the best of every situation. She often entertained staff and residents with her spontaneous singing and humerous banter. She did enjoy a cup of afternoon tea, dressing in fashionable clothes and putting on her lipstick before leaving her room. For the most part she was known for “her smile and kind words when staff got her a cup of tea”; she was always thankful for anything staff would do for her. In Marion’s memory and spirit, have afternoon tea with a friend.</p><p>While living in Brockville, Marion, being a social person, was an active member in a number of ladies’ groups: the IODE, church groups at First Presbyterian, Wall Street and Wesleyan Methodist and a patron of Brockville Museum. In the late 1960’s, she also ran a home business, “Hi Neighbour!” welcoming newcomers’ to Brockville. Marion loved family gatherings at holiday time in Bowmanville. She enjoyed playing bridge, visiting with family in Ontario, BC, Northern Ireland and England, and keeping descriptive diaries of each trip. </p><p>Family and friends may pay their respects at the IRVINE FUNERAL HOME and CHAPEL, 4 James Street East, Brockville, on Saturday, October 14th from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. when a service will take place in the Chapel. A private interment will be held at Bowmanville Cemetery on October 16th. In memoriams to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind will be gratefully acknowledged.
