Mary Ross Comstock

August 2, 1939 – June 27, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lesley Ross Comstock on June 27, 2020. Mary was the beloved mother of Missy (Shawn) whom she adored, and was Nanny to the loves of her life, Maddie and Evan. She was deeply loved by her sisters Jane and Joy and her many nieces and nephews. Mary will also be greatly missed by her dear friends, colleagues and the BCI “50’s“ girls. She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Phyllis Wooding.

Mary’s life was music. She was an instrumental and vocal teacher with the local school board, an accomplished pianist and accompanist, songwriter, and the Star of the very first music Festival in Brockville. In 2009 she was inducted into the Brockville and Area Music and Performing Arts Hall of Fame.

She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to have been a part of her many musical and artistic endeavours including the Brockville Concert Band, the Brockville Police Choir, the Brockville Operatic Society, the Brockville Theatre Guild, and the Belles of St. Mary Choir. Wonderful memories were made working with Peter Lynch, Terry O’Reilly and other talented local performers over the years. Her collaborations with her dear friend A.J. Benoit also held a special place in her heart.

In addition to music, Mary loved to paint, play bridge, garden, golf, and spend time with her beloved cats.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville. Internment will be at Oakland Cemetery with family by her side. Once restrictions have been eased, a celebration will be held to honour the best of Mary’s life.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Ontario SPCA Leeds and Grenville Animal Centre will be gratefully acknowledged.
