Roderick Edmund Wilkes Brockville, Ontario Obituary

Roderick Edmund Wilkes

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Rod, beloved husband, caring father and dear friend on the early morning of August 30th. He was at home, where his remaining weeks and days were spent with many relatives and friends who came to visit. Dad was predeceased by the love of his life, Joan, who left us 3 years ago on the 29th of August. Dad was a dedicated loyal man with an adventurous spirit, and an inquisitive mind. He maintained the highest of moral qualities and unquestioned integrity. He always had a kind ear, and some sage advice based on his experience or those he admired. He placed strong emphasis on the importance of family, and of communication and honesty. His career in power tools and machinery to automotive batteries exemplified his work ethic and strong sense of loyalty. Rod was extremely dedicated to his family, both the one from which he came and the one he created with his loving wife Joan. He will be forever missed by his sons Philip, Jeffrey and Steven, and their spouses, Patricia, Simon and Janis, his grandchildren Cody, Michele, Kaitlin, Trevor, Brenden and Alyssa as well as his trusted housekeeper and caregiver Myrna Parantar. Rod was the youngest, survived by brother Roland and sister Barbara. His brother Howard, and his sisters Eileen, Norma, Ruth, predeceased him. His brothers-in-law Murray and Paul Tipping and the many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Wilkes and Tipping Families will always remember Uncle Rod. He loved his golf, his country club and all the many, many friends he made during his long and productive life. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Thursday, September 5th from 11:30 a.m. until the time of Rod's "19th hole Ceremony of Remembrance" at 1:08 p.m. A reception will follow and private interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery. In remembrance, donations to the Brockville District Palliative Care Service or charity of choice will be gratefully acknowledged. Visit an online memorial at www.irvinememorial.com
