Ronald Ellsworth Brannen, MD June 15, 1917 - March 14, 2010 Peacefully after a lengthy illness, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Wilson). Father of sons: Ronald, and partner Don Maracle, Belleville, Peter and wife Deborah, Pincher Creek, Alberta, and daughters: Elizabeth (Donald) Raizenne, Kanata and Alison (Craig) Fraser, Toronto. Proud grandfather of Michelle Raizenne, Ottawa; Matthew (and Jaime) Raizenne, Toronto; Timothy Raizenne, Kanata, and Amanda Fraser, Toronto. Recent great-grandfather of Miles Raizenne, Toronto. Predeceased by parents Arthur D. and Meda Brannen of Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia and brothers A. Douglas, Collingwood, and Robert M. Bellleville. Survived by Lindsay Brannen, Washington, Herbert Brannen and Eleanor Watt, Nova Scotia. Dr. Brannen received his early education at Acadia University, his medical degree from Dalhousie University. Following service with the Royal Canadian Air Force, he relocated to the area of his birth, Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia to provide medical and obstetrical services to the residents of the local fishing villages. Here, he renewed his acquaintance with Dorothy E Wilson, whom he married in 1947. After seven years of family practice, they moved their young family to Toronto where he spent four years specializing in the study of Diagnostic Radiology at the Toronto General Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children. After one year on the medical staff at St Michaels Hospital, he relocated to Brockville as its first resident radiologist in 1957. Dr Brannen retired from medical practice in 1982. The family will receive friends at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Wednesday, March 17 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and Thursday, March 18 after 10 am until 11 am when the service will be held in the chapel followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brockville General Hospital or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
