World War II Veteran (Merchant Marine). Died peacefully at his home on Friday, March 5, 2010; Samual Hanink of R.R. 3 Brockville at the age of 90 years. Beloved husband of Mary Hanink. Loving father of Jean (Luc Fournier) of Ottawa and Peter (Crystal) of Durham NC. Step-father of Janet (Ray Gilroy) of Mallorytown, Barbara Howard of Frankford and Phyllis Knapp of Athens. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Pierre, Paul and Patrick Fournier and Samuel Hanink; and step-grandchildren Gregg Brennan (Alison), Emily Morrison (Andrew), Ben Knapp (Tina), Jordan and Lacey Knapp, and Shannon Howard. Also survived by five great-grandchildren and by his brother Einard Haniuk. Predeceased by his first wife Helen Jean Hanink, by his granddaughter Alberta and by a brother and sister. Samuel Hanink was a retired and long-time employee of the Brockville Public Utilities Commission. He was a member of the Masonic order belonging to Lyn Lodge #416, G.R.C. as well as a member of the Tunis Temple Shriners. Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, March 11th commencing with a Tribute by the members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 96 at 1:00 p.m. A gathering will follow in the Irvine Reception Centre. Private cremation at Roselawn. In remembrance, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
