William Douglas Panter Obituary

William (Bill) Panter passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital on Thursday August 22, 2013 at the age of 86. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Marie (Holmes) Panter, wife Laura (Gerundin) Panter and daughter Kathie (Panter) Menard. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.

Bill grew up in Hazelton, British Columbia working in the coal mines for a few years, bartending at the local hotel, playing in a band and best of all playing baseball.

Bill met Laura while she was working as a nurse in British Columbia and shortly after their wedding they relocated to Ontario. Bill was a jack of all trades, including becoming a police officer for the Metro Toronto Police and a Class A mechanic. He graduated teachers college in 1967 and started teaching in Moosonee, Ontario. Then in 1970 Bill and his family moved to Prescott, Ontario where he started teaching at South Grenville District High School. After having to take an early retirement, due to health reasons, Bill and Laura started their own driving school business and taught driver’s education for many years.

Bill stayed busy over the years, referring hockey and baseball games, wood working, singing with the Brockville Melodymen Barbershop chorus, sitting on the Board of Directors for Crime Stoppers for a number of years as well as many other organizations. Bill loved animals, people and life in general. He was a true testament to courage, dedication and commitment and never lost his zest for life nor his love for family and friends no matter the heartache, obstacle or health battle.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 6, 2013 at 1 pm at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland, Ontario. Memorial donations can be made to any charity in his name, as he was passionate about so many causes. Online condolences/tributes can be made at www.irvinememorial.com.
