William Henry Tooker

<p>Tooker, William H. (Bill) </p><p>At Brockville General Hospital on December 3, 2015, in his 86th year. Youngest son of Mark Wilkinson and Gladys Irene (Henry) Tooker. Predeceased by his dear wife Susan Margaret (Vogt) and his brother Perry Tooker and sister Dorothy Grady. Survived by his children Lucinda Tooker (Tony Greenall) and Mark Tooker (Anne Séguin-Tooker), and his beloved grandchildren Céleste, Anaïs and Isabelle. A lifelong Brockville resident, he enjoyed boating on the St. Lawrence and Rideau rivers and as a young man worked on the passenger steamers Rapids Prince and Kingston. During a long career at Ontario Hydro as a lineman and customer service representative, much of his free time was spent at the Brockville Rowing Club where he was a long-time member and past president. He participated as an official at rowing regattas around the world including the 1976 Olympics and is a member of the Brockville Sports Hall of Fame. As a retiree he was active in the Brockville Historical Society and Royal Canadian Legion. A veritable walking encyclopedia of Brockville history and an eyewitness to a large part of it, he contributed his memories of working on the St. Lawrence River to the book Brockville Voices. Friends are invited to join the family at a reception at Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville, on Thursday, December 10th from 2-4 p.m. Words of remembrance and a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute will take place at 3pm. Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, donations can be made in Bill's name to the Brockville Rowing Club or the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.
