PETERSEN, Sonya (née Schulkes) died peacefully on April 16 in Cambridge, Ontario at the age of 82 after a short illness and a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Sonya is survived by her daughters, Karen (Tim) Houle and Lisa (Glenn) Askin, stepdaughter Dorothea Petersen, grandchildren Kayla (Alex), Jennifer, Mary (Rob), Elizabeth and Stephen and great-grandson, Benjamin. Sonya is preceded in death by husband Christian. Sonya was born in Saskatchewan to Bernard and Madeleine and brother Arnold. She raised her family in Burlington and enjoyed many years working for Voortman Cookies. The family wishes to express sincere thanks for the kind and wonderful care at Stirling Heights LTC. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 30 at the Askin’s home (71 Maplecrest Lane, Brantford ON) from 2 - 4 pm. All are welcome. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's society.
