John Dixon

John Dixon September 16, 1932 – April 6, 2017 John was born in South Yorkshire, England. After leaving school at 15, he joined Barclays Bank, working in Barnsley, Sheffield and Derby. In 1958 he married his best friend Sheila and had 2 children, Michael and Lesley. In 1968 the family emigrated to Canada, where he joined the Toronto Dominion Bank. After working in Head Office, his 1st Branch as Manager was at Browns Line and Horner, Etobicoke, then a move to Bathurst and Glencairn, followed by Dixie and Orenda, making many friends along the way. At this time he was active in many charitable ventures, as President of the Toronto Kinsmen Club, Chairman of the first Cheshire Home in Canada, receiving the Paul Harris Award. John took early retirement from Banking and acted as a Financial Consultant before he and Sheila opened a used book store in Oakville, called Second Editions, which they ran for 14 years, before finally retiring. After living in Mississauga and Oakville they moved to Collingwood to be close to their children and grandson. Cremation has taken place, a Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 32 Elgin St. Collingwood at 1 p.m. on Thursday April 20, 2017. Donations would be gratefully accepted at All Saints Church or the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, where John received great care.
