Anne Elizabeth Shrumm Obituary

Anne Shrumm, 83, of Stratton, Ontario passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12th, 2015 at the LaVerendrye Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Pattulo Township on the family farm October 18th, 1931 to Alfred (Mick) and Janet Wardman. Anne attended public school in Shenston, Stratton and Winnipeg. She went to Fort Frances High School for grades 11 & 12. After graduating, she received a ‘letter of permission’ to teach at Shenston and North Branch. On December 20th, 1952 she married Clarence Shrumm of Stratton, ON and together they raised two sons, Gord and Dan. In the summer Anne was an avid gardener. She loved her vegetable and many flower gardens. She spent countless hours canning and preserving (and giving away) all the wonderful items so that others could enjoy them as well. She always made sure she had her weekends free – May to Oct. - so that her and Clarence could enjoy their wonderful cabin on Lake of the Woods. Some of her most memorable moments were spent at the cabin surrounded by family, friends, and neighbours. It was her home away from home. In the winter Anne enjoyed her tv dramas, horror shows, movies and especially curling. At one time, she and her whole family loved nothing more than to participate in a good game of curling at the local rink. She and Clarence spent many hours there curling, cheering on everyone and lending a helping hand in all the bonspiels that were held. Anne is survived by her son, Gord and daughter-in-law Lee of Nestor Falls, ON; granddaughter Pam (Chris) of Somerset, MB; granddaughter Danielle (Jeremy) of Headingley, MB; granddaughter Jenn (Steve) and great-grandson Layton of Rainy River, ON; grandson Darren (Danielle) and great-grandchildren Roman, Ella and Paris of Spruce Grove, AB. She is also survived by many dear relatives and friends – Don Lougheed & Sheila McMillan, Karen Tiffan, Sheldon Olson, Curtis & Sandy Berg, Gordie & Sandra Williams & family, Murray & Joan Aikenhead, Joe & Maxine Irvine, Bryan & June Bonot and many more. She also kept in touch with her cousin Joanne in BC on a weekly basis. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Clarence in 2006 and her youngest son Dan in 1996. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and an intimate graveside service and interment will follow at a later date in Barwick Cemetary. If desired memorial donations may be made in Anne’s memory to the Emo Health Centre, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON, P0W 1E0.
