Charles Lisander Dimit Obituary

It is with great sadness the family of Charles Lisander Dimit announce his peaceful passing on Jan 18,2013 at the Emo Health Center at the age of 98. Charlie was born Oct 18,1914 in Togo Saskatchewan to Robert and Edith Dimit. He joined the Armed Forces on April 25, 1941 in Winnipeg. He served as a gunner in the 5th Armoured Division of the 17th Field Regiment until his discharge on Feb 9,1946. He served his country in England, Italy going through France into Belgium and Holland. He was stationed in Germany when the war ended. Charlie married the love of his life Elizabeth Yuill on February 14, 1946. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day. Charlie and Lil settled in Emo where they raised their five children; Robert (Gwen), Gaydonna (Marlin) Baker, Roger (Martha), Anne-Marie (Art) Reid, and Valdean (Marcel) DeGagné. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; Shaun (Ricci) Dimit, Ted (Brittany) Dimit, Wendy (Ron) Turcott, Dean Martin, Renée Martin-Brown and husband Ken, Terry (Lindsey) Martin, Dache (Cheryl) Dimit, Craig (Leah) Reid, Pam (Rob) Cain, Kevin (Laura) Reid, Jody DeGagné and husband Wade Thorpe, Darren (Sara) DeGagné, Jamie (Sydney) DeGagné, as well as 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister in law, Judy Dimit. Charlie was predeceased by his parents Robert and Edith Dimit, his siblings; Clara (Jack) Mason, Hazel (Elmer) Wood, Lloyd (Mary) Dimit, Laverne Dimit, and Florence (Vincent) Hodges. He was also predeceased by two grandchildren in infancy, Kirk Charles Reid and Bobbi-Jo Dimit. Charlie was an active member of the Emo Legion Branch #99 since 1952. He held many various positions with the Legion and was a lifetime member. Charlie worked for the Department of Highways for 35 years until his retirement in 1976. Charlie was also a devoted member of St. George’s Anglican church. Charlie was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed curling and playing baseball and the highlight of his Saturday nights were watching his favourite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. You could also find him cheering on the Winnipeg Bluebombers during the CFL football season. Charlie was respected by all who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered most for his quiet and gentle manner, his kind heart, his sense of humour and his love for his family.
