Late Daniel “Kakekoons” Big George (Kake)
With deep sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Daniel "Kakekoons" Big George on Wednesday March 9th, 2016 in
Big Island, Ontario.
Kakekoons was born on July 25th, 1958 to pre deceased father,
Robert "Ojibwa" Paypompee and mother, Cecila Maagomaasomook” Whitefield (nee Big George).
Kakekoons entered the Midewin lodge at the age of three. He also entered the sun dance lodge as a young man. He spent his early years at Naotkamegwanning First Nation, ON. He went to High School in Fort Frances, Ontario and graduated from Rainy River High School while living in Big Island, Ontario. He furthered his education in Teaching the Anishinaabemowin language at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He practiced traditional medicine and teachings throughout his life. He was well known in the traditional and pow-wow circle. He was loved by many. No matter what situations faced him and his
family, his humour uplifted everyone's spirit, and always maintained a positive outlook on life. He thought the world of his kids and grand-kids.
Kakekoons was survived by his seven children Kyla Archie, Kyda Archie, Trivena Andy (Tyler Archie), Tamika-Jo Andy (Samuel Kingbird Sr.), Daniel Andy, Danier Andy, and Niibin Andy. His six grand children Maliah Archie, Zakyas Red Bear, Kourage Red Bear, Melena Archie, Ameriah-Joy Kingbird-Andy and Juliet Kingbird-Andy. Also his siblings Patricia Big George, Darlene Paypompee (Mark), Darrell, Dale, Jean (Kurtis), Deyla (Tam), Penace (Frank), Shawun and numerous nieces and nephews.
A traditional wake will be held on Sunday March 13, 2016 from
5 p.m. at the Big Island Community Centre, followed by a traditional service on Monday March 14, 2016 at 10 a.m with Elder Sam Muskwa officiating.
Interment will take place in Big Island Cemetery. Pall Bearers will
be Daniel Andy, Danier Andy, Bradley Kirkrude Sr., Bob Wilson, Mizzen Paypompee, and C.J. Gustafson. Online condolences
