Darlene Frances Draper Obituary

DARLENE FRANCES DRAPER A celebration of the life of Darlene Draper was held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo, Ont. after her passing on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Emo Health Centre. She was born on July 17, 1928 to William and Maude Cooke in Emo. The family moved to a farm east of Emo, where she spent her early years. On June 20, 1951, Darlene married Sheldon Draper. They lived in Emo and Fort Frances, Ont. When Sheldon started his ministry training, they moved to Toronto, Ont., where Darlene worked to help. They moved on to pastorates in Ontario and New Brunswick and when Sheldon took sick, they were in Ignace, Ont. As Sheldon's wife, Darlene became an important partner in serving God. Her life was full, helping to meet people and reaching out to people in their communities. After Sheldon's death, she returned to Emo to help family and she became active in the Calvary Baptist Church. She later moved from her house to the Golden Age Manor, where she enjoyed the fellowship and programs that were provided. She was a constant attender at the Day Hospital Services, where she willingly took her turn. Many comments were made about her service to and love for God, for children, and for help from her if you had a problem in your life. Comments extended to her being a very special lady. Darlene is survived by her sister, Janet (Roy) Young; sisters-in-law, Velma Cooke and Shirley (Alf) Olsen; and many nieces and nephews, many of whom kept in close touch with her. Her apartment had numerous pictures of them and their children. She was predeceased by her father (1963); mother (1995); brother, Berneth (1989); sister, Leona (2005); brother-in-law, Bill (2011); and great nephew, Timothy (2005). Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo, with Rev. Conrad Dueck and Rev. Trevor Martin officiating. Interment took place at the Emo Cemetery. If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, the Emo Health Centre, or a charity of your choice c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
