Doris Holt Obituary

Doris Ruth (Kreger) Holt passed away in Winnipeg on Sunday April 21, 2013. She was the eldest child of Gladys and John Kreger of Harris Hill, Ontario. Doris was born in Rainy River on January 29, 1938. She attended the one room school house Spohn# 2 and then went to Rainy River High School for her high school education. She later attended Success Commercial College in Winnipeg for training in commercial subjects. While living in Winnipeg she met her future husband Gault Hamilton Holt. They were married in Winnipeg on June 25, 1959. Afterwards they moved to Thompson, MB for a short time, and then later to Chicago in 1960. Following her husband death, in 1999 Doris moved back to Winnipeg to be near her family. Gault worked as a sheet metal worker until his retirement and also ran a golf shop in Chicago which Doris helped him with. After the shop closed Doris worked for Winnifield Industries until she retired in 1998. Doris was very involved with her church both in Winnipeg and Chicago. The Cubs were her favorite baseball team. She and Gault enjoyed golfing. She belonged to the Eastern Star in Chicago for many years reaching the top position of that chapter of the Eastern Star. After she moved to Winnipeg and became involved in her church there she formed the Krafty Krew where she enjoyed knitting scarves, touques, sweaters, and mittens which she gave to the missions, as well as for her nieces and nephews. She also made beautiful pettipoint pictures giving them to her family which I’m sure they will enjoy for many years to come. Doris was predeceased by her brother Georgie on December 6, 1948, by her in-laws Reg Holt in 1967 and her mother in law Irene Holt in 1984, her mother Gladys on December 24, 1971 and her father John on July 5, 1989, her brother William (Bill) on July 12, 1986 and her husband Gault on February 18, 1994. She is survived by her brothers Milton (Margaret), Ronnie (Sharon) and Douglas (Linda). She is also survived by her aunts Elsie Ewald and Margaret Kreger (Audie) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services where held the Trinity Lutheran Church, Bergland on Saturday April 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Lay pastor Carolyn Kreger officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, at a later date. If desired in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, Ontario, P0W 1E0.
