Evelyn Stang Obituary

In loving memory of our dear mother Katherine Evelyn Stang (nee George) who passed away at the Riverside Health Care Facilities (LVGH) on October 3, 2014 at the age of 83. Evelyn was born on September 25th, 1931 to Ernest (Jim) and Estella (Stella) George. She spent a happy childhood in a little log house on the banks of the Rainy River two and a half miles southeast of Emo. Evelyn had one sibling Elaine Marie Wilson (nee George) with whom she shared a deep bond. In the early years when distance separated the two they held a steady lifeline of heartfelt weekly letters. In their later years, the telephone was their connection, spending hours every day sharing news of their ever growing families and their common love of sports, especially curling. The sudden loss of her dear sister on August 16, 2014 was a blow which Evelyn had a hard time enduring. As a young woman Evelyn attended teachers College in North Bay, Ontario. Upon completion of her teaching degree she commenced on a 25 year career during which her endless patience and passion for books, music and learning served her well as she taught and mentored her students. On July 5th, 1955. Evelyn married the love of her life, William (Billy) Stang. Together they raised four daughters and left a legacy of love, tradition and a sense of family which will live on in all their daughters Laurie(Alex),Susan(Don),Jan(Robert) and Lois(Rob), their 8 grandchildren Robin (Michelle) Anderson, Ryan (Alicia) Anderson, Melanie (Jeff) Kreger, Katie (Ashley) Prosak, Tara (Dale) Jerry, Jessica (Leo) Barahona, Patrick Brischke, Chelsea Horley and their14 great grandchildren, William, Caitlin, Meagan, Madison, Douglas, Chase, Kylynn, Karsyn, Linkin, Braydon, Morgan, Avery, Carter and Emily. Eveyln is also survived by her brothers in law Wilmer (Marjorie) Stang, Bradley Haw and sisters in law Grace Stang and Shirley Berg. She was recently predeceased by her husband William and her sister Elaine. Evelyn will be remembered for so many of her unique and special characteristics. Her creativity and love of all things aesthetic, be it a beautifully penned letter, her thoughtfully selected cards, a beautifully packaged gift, or a colorful flower garden. Mom, we will miss you so much, your quiet strength, and your comforting, calming presence. “Mother” She gives you life, She gives you respect, love, gratitude, She believes in you She will nuture you, fight for you, She deserves nothing less from you. A special thank-you to all the staff at the Riverside Healthcare facility for all the compassion and care which you showed to our mother. We cannot thank-you enough for your support and dedication. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday October 9, 2014 at the Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, Ontario with Rev. Frances Flook officiating. Reception to follow at the Stratton Millennium Hall. Interment to take place in Pine Ridge Cemetery, North Branch, Ontario.
