Frances Treflin Obituary

Frances Lorine Patricia (Desrosier) Treflin Frances Lorine Patricia (Desrosier) Treflin was born in Rainy River, Ontario on Dec. 3, 1927 to Albert and Laura (Galipeau) Desrosier. She passed away at the Rainy River Health Centre on June 13, 2019 at the age of 91, surrounded by family and had enjoyed continual visits, stories and prayers from family, friends and Clergy during the final week of her earthly life. Frances went to school in Rainy River. When she was 12 her parents had both passed away and she was raised by her older cousin Minn and Max Flamand. Frances moved to Morson in 1945 to work at Dalseg’s Store and Post Office; at the end of WWII she met Leonard Treflin when he returned from overseas and the rest was history. They were married on Nov. 25, 1948 and lived happily in Morson for the next 52 years always knowing that was exactly where they wanted to be. Glen was born in 1951 and Maxine in 1954. Frances worked for Bell Canada, the Post Office, and as a bookkeeper for Mylie’s Place, Dalseg’s Ent and Gills. She enjoyed her work and loved the people she met every day and her coworkers. Always a devout Catholic, Mom was active in the Lady of the Lake R.C. Church and worked tirelessly with the group to build this current Church building in the 90’s.She was a 4-H leader in the 60’s, always a proud member of the Morson W.I. and belonged to St. Mary’s CWL in later years. Our mother was very sociable. Life was full and fun and she was always a participating Mom –she and Thelma Fadden hosted weekly skating parties on the Bay for years and everyone was welcome for endless supplies of cocoa, hotdogs and chocolate cake. She skated, tobogganed and skied with us, and snowshoed and walked daily into her late 70’s. There were card parties, coffee parties, ice cream parties, family times with her brothers and sister and cousins and life was like Happy Days growing up with our Mom. She welcome and loved her daughter-in-law and son-in-law but her 4 grandchildren were her real joy, followed in the last few years by 2 great grandchildren who visited her often. Leonard passed away in 2000; in 2003 Mom moved to Fort Frances near Glen and his family, where she lived happily until 2011, returning to Rainy River in 2011 to Assisted Living, and Long Term Care in Nov. 2014. She was a cancer survivor in 2003 and overcame some serious health issues until her death. We called her the cat with 19 lives. Frances was many things in her lifetime and she filled every role with all she had. She was small but mighty. Frances was predeceased by her brothers Albert and Maurice Desrosier, sister Mae Kreger, husband Leonard in 2000, and son Glen in 2010. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Maxine and Kim Hannam, grandsons Matthew (Sarah) and Elliott (Ashton); daughter-in-law Kathy (Meek) Treflin (Ron Fehr) and granddaughter Tracy and Travis Rob and their children Ian and Leah, and grandson Bryan Treflin (Sara), as well as nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Thomas on Friday June 28, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church in Morson on Lakeview Drive, directly followed by a luncheon in the church. All are invited to attend. Private family interment later in the Morson Cemetery. Donations in Frances’ memory are greatly appreciated to the Rainy River Health Centre, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0. We do not have words to give Thanks and appreciation to the entire staff of the Rainy River Health Centre for their help to our Mother during her life and death there. The professional, compassionate care she received is a gift just as her life was. We are grateful to all of the Dr.’s, nursing staff and entire support staff in every role. Special thanks to Fran Farragher and Dennis Olinyk.
