Irene Landry Obituary

Peacefully with her family by her side on June 13, 2014 at the Emo Health Centre, Irene Landry of Barwick, Ontario, passed away at the age of 90. Irene was born on September 24, 1923 in Nelles Twp, Ont to Joseph and Mary Ann Gouliquer. She was united in marriage to Hector Landry on Nov 20, 1939. Irene had a strong work ethic and was very independent. She learned this very early in life, looking after her two boys Tom and Peter while her husband served over seas from 1942 to the end of the war. She was never afraid work and would tackle any job, no matter how difficult to provide for her family. In the earlier years Irene and Hector and their young family would relocate to many communities following Hector’s work on construction. They resided in many places including Arbor Vitae Gimli, Mb, Port Alberni, B.C., Kenora, Ont, Ear Falls, Ont, Dunblane, Sk, Devlin, Ont, Minaki, Ont to name a few before finally settling in Barwick. Irene also worked on numerous jobs including a school bus driver, milk truck driver, security guard and a bilingual translator for the South Bay Mine, an ambulance driver and as a heavy equipment operator of a euclid earth mover in the Griffith Mine. In addition to working out of the home, Irene always found time for a garden, canning and preserving her fruits, vegetables and wild game. She will be fondly remembered for her home made quilts and her love for curling, hockey and watching local baseball games. Irene is survived by her children Tom (Wendy Richards) Landry of Moose Jaw, Sask, and Peter (Joanne) Landry of Barwick, Ontario; her grandchildren Scott Landry (Patricia LaBar), Ricky Landry, Joan (John) Quint, Jason Landry (Farah Flinders), Joshua Landry, Jessie Loveday and her great grandchildren Johnny, Brian, Matt, Brianna, Blaine and great great granddaughter Aleena. She is also survived by her brothers Hector Gouliquer, Lawrence (Olive) Gouliquer, Gerald (Mary) Gouliquer, her sister Stella Huntley, sister in law Georgette Gouliquer and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Mary Ann, her husband Hector (1987), son Blaine (2011), and his wife Linda (2003),grandson Matt Landry (1989), and a great grandchild Dawna Quint; her brothers Arthur (Madeline)Gouliquer, Peter (Mary) Gouliquer, Antoine “Tony”(Rose) Gouliquer; Theo “Deedee” Gouliquer; sister in law Irene Gouliquer, and brother in law Frank Huntley. Visitation was held at the Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, Ont on Tuesday June 17, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. where funeral service was held on Wednesday June 18, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Fr. Alan Albao officiating. Interment will take place in Devlin Cemetery. Pall Bearers where Scott Landry, Joshua Landry, Jason Landry, Vaughan Wilson, Brad Wakefield, Kevin Gemmel.
