James Hrynuk Obituary

The family of Edward James “Jim” Hrynuk wish to announce his passing at the Atikokan General Hospital on Friday January 25th, 2013 following his journey with Multiple Myeloma at the age of 83. “Big Jim”, “10 horse Jim” will always be remembered by those who knew him as an approachable, friendly, humourous fellow who always had a smile and quick witted line. Jim was born in Fort Frances, ON and lived in the country and bush all his life. He spent his early years growing up in Sleeman, Stratton, Mine Centre and Farrington. Jim learned at a very young age to live off the land. He would often be taken out hunting as a young boy by many adults, as he was always known for his hunting skills and accuracy with his large strong hands. Prior to living in Atikokan, Jim travelled around Northwestern Ontario and Churchill Manitoba building homes. In the 1950’s he came to settle in Atikokan and manage the Steep Rock Inn for 10 years and worked at the Caland Ore Company as a heavy duty mechanic for 15 years. He was united in marriage to Irene Kolman and together they raised 4 children. Jim spent his retirement years fishing, berry & pine cone picking and gardening at his home he built on Turtle Lake. He loved his horseshoe and curling games , winning many events and he always welcomed and encouraged others to join him. Jim had many furry and feathered friends that regularly visited looking for their special treats. He was always capturing great photos of the outdoors and all that is in it. He had the keenest eye to spot any wildlife on the lake with or without his binoculars. Jim is lovingly survived by his four children. Jim (Shelley) Hrynuk, Joanne (Doug) Brown, Cheryl (Bill) Shiells, Susan (Brad) Sampson. 8 grandchildren, Kaleigh, Erin, Emily-Jo, Dustin, Amanda, Adam, Robin and Parker. 1 great grandchild Amelia. Siblings Lillian Saurer of Fort Frances and Doris Feuchuk of Calgary , special nephew Larry Champion and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Mike and Mary Hrynuk and siblings Bill, Steve, Ann, George, Margaret and special brother Sammy. Dad always loved nature and appreciated the four seasons. “Grampa, you are “TOPS” and hope you have already “caught the big one!!” We love you!! In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Atikokan General Hospital. A private family service will be held. Online condolences may be offered at www.northridgefuneralhome.com
