Jeannie Morphet Obituary

Jeannie (Tribe) Morphet Jeannie Morphet, 92, formerly of Emo, passed away peacefully on Monday December 18, 2017 at the Rainy Crest Long Term Care, in Fort Frances, Ontario. Jeannie was born on October 11, 1925 in Emo, Ontario to the late William and Jeannie (née Morrison) Tribe. She went into the Army at the age of 18, and was stationed in Prince Rupert, BC. She served 3 years in the service and has been a member of the Legion for over 70 years. When she was home in leave she met Irwin Morphet, and on June 27, 1947, Jeannie married her soulmate, at her parents home in Emo. Jeannie worked at the Emo Hotel for two owners who were family friends. She was also a stay-at-home mom with both her daughters, Judy and Pam. Jeannie was an avid curler into her senior years. She curled in many bonspiels, afternoon and evening leagues, both mixed, and women’s. Jeannie could usually be seen on a team with Art and Dorothy Bonot, or Helen and Ken Oien. She was not limited in her teammates, and had curled with many other wonderful people in her lifetime. She enjoyed other sports such as baseball and hockey. She was a Toronto Blue Jays fan and attended may games when visiting in Toronto. She also supported the local baseball teams and her and Irwin could usually be seen on weekends at the local tournaments. Jeannie had a daily routine, heading downtown at 10am for the mail and then for coffee; over the years she was a patron of the Country Kitchen, Can-Am, Circle D, Village Inn, and the Emo Inn. She enjoyed meeting people and spending time with her fellow coffee drinkers. She enjoyed time with Irwin playing bingo and was very lucky a good part of the time. Over the years she and Irwin travelled throughout Canada and Minnesota visiting friends and family. She enjoyed riding in the car and looking at the scenery, was the chief navigator on the long road trips. As her health began to decline, Irwin cared for her and she would accompany him to work at the Emo Landfill, being his lookout for incoming traffic. Needless to say, she and Irwin lived life to the fullest until her health continued to decline. She then relocated to Rainycrest where Irwin visited her regularly, and she looked forward to his visits. Jeannie is survived by her daughters, Judy Morphet of Toronto, and Pam (David) Cowlishaw of Mountain Iron, MN; two beautiful granddaughters Kaitlyn and Kalleann , her brothers Moe (Ev) of Sapawi, Doug (Loraine) of Atikokan, and Ed (Eleanor) of Nanton, AB. Jeannie is also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Irwin, and infant son, and sister Gordie, sister-in-laws Doris and Harriet, brother-in-laws Raoul, Melvin, Alan,Herman, Elmer, Gordon and Milo. A service of celebration and remembrance will be held on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. from Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, ON with Rev. Frances Flook officiating. Interment will take place in Emo Cemetery at a later date. If desired memorial donations may be made in Jeannie's memory to the MS Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
