John Arnold Dustin Obituary

Sadly, with heavy hearts, the family of John Dustin Sr. announce his sudden passing, surrounded by his family and friends, on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at the age of 63 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. John was born May 21, 1951 to the late Herb and Elsie Dustin. On March 25, 1967, John married the love of his life, Roxann (nee Gurniak). Together, they raised four boys, John Jr. (Melissa), Brad (Kristen), Todd (Geraldine), and Curtis. John is survived by his wife and four children, along with his brother, Dewane (Jean) Dustin; sister, Rhonda (Murray) Degagne; mother-in-law, Dorothy Tkachuk; sisters-in-law, Micheliane (Harvey) Vien, Joan Ronmark (Bob), and Gail (Ed) McTavish; and brothers-in-law, Dewayne Gurniak, David Gurniak, and Rob (Melissa) Gurniak. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jory Anderson, Brennen Anderson (Nicole), Bryanna Dustin, and Devon and Damion Dustin; plus numerous nieces and nephews, who all shared a very special place in Uncle John’s heart and memories. John was predeceased by his parent, Herb and Elsie Dustin; sister, Judith Lynn; father-in-law, Mike Gurniak; step father-in-law, Lawrance Tkachuk; and nephew, Justin Degagne. John was a very hard-working man who lived by a code of hand work. He was a licensed mechanic, an AZ truck driver, and a heavy equipment operator for various companies throughout his life, such as Mutz Brothers, Derald McCool, Alton Pollard, Heikki Lampi, and Tom Veert. John had a love of old western movies and country music, along with a passion for hunting and fishing. He also had a love for stock car races, in which he raced for years. Recently, John had the chance to watch his granddaughter race in her first go-kart race. John always loved to work on his yard and in his gardens. He also always found the time to go to every hockey practice and game to cheer on the team. John always loved to sit around with family and friends, and have a good laugh. He also will be missed by his four-legged companion, Odie. A service in memory of John will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. in Hallett Hall at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances. The pallbearers will be Heikki Lampi, Chris Galusha, Don Zaparniuk, Lee Mosley, Brian Gamie, Nathan Galusha, Darryl Galusha, and Rob Gurniak. The honourary pallbearers will be John’s grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to Roxann Dustin or Rainycrest.
