John Stuart Helder Obituary

With great sadness Sharon, Dylan, Jordan, Brian, Bristol, Mackenzie and family announce the passing of John Helder on Thursday December 20, 2018. John passed away peacefully at home as was his wish. John was born January 7th, 1965 in Emo to parents Ulke and Hannah Helder and grew up in Bergland. He often reminisced about what a wonderful childhood he had there. His love of sports started at an early age and he went on excel at hockey and baseball. John enjoyed many trips to go see the Montreal Canadiens play in Montreal, Washington, Dallas, Minneapolis and Phoenix. John and Sharon also had the pleasure of traveling to Portugal and loved it so much they went twice. John was very proud to be an electrician at Norboard Mill in Barwick and made some great friends there. He also enjoyed his time with the Union and loved to "fight the good fight" for his Union brothers and sisters. John was very happy when summer would come and it was time to open up the cabin at Bears Pass. We have so many great memories of all the time we spent there as a family. As the years went on he became a talented deck and dock builder and there was nothing better than a walleye dinner from his secret fishing spots. John and Sharon were married on July 25, 1987 and raised their family in Fort Frances. He was extremely proud of what wonderful, kind and caring people his two children became. He was predeceased by his father Ulke, his in-laws Harold and Joan Smith and Grammie. John was a loving husband, father, grandpa, son and brother. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Sharon; son Dylan; daughter Jordan and husband Brian and his beloved granddaughters Bristol and Mackenzie; his mother Hannah; sisters Cindy (Keith) and Brenda (Randy); brother Dennis (Dana); in laws Robert and Kim and Heather and Gilles; nieces Cait (Bryan) and April; and nephews Austin, Corey (Morgan), Brody and Derek. As per John's wishes a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be to Riverside Foundation (Chemo Unit) by cheque c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0 To my husband: In a sea of people my eyes will always search for you.
